亚撒王击败古实人
亚比雅与他祖先同睡，葬在大卫城，他的儿子亚撒接续他作王。亚撒在位期间，国中太平十年。
So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.
2亚撒行耶和华－他神眼中看为善为正的事，And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God:
3除掉外邦的祭坛和丘坛，打碎柱像，砍下亚舍拉，For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:
4吩咐犹大人寻求耶和华－他们列祖的神，遵行他的律法和诫命，And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.
5又在犹大各城镇除掉丘坛和香坛。在他治理下，国中太平。Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.
6他在犹大建造了几座坚固城。那些年间，国中太平，没有战争，因为耶和华赐他平安。And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.
7他对犹大人说：“我们要建造这些城镇，四围筑墙，盖城楼，安门，做闩；地仍属于我们，因为我们寻求耶和华－我们的神；我们寻求他，他就赐我们四境平安。”于是他们建造城镇，诸事亨通。Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.
8亚撒的军兵，出自犹大拿盾牌拿枪的三十万人，出自便雅悯拿小盾牌拉弓的二十八万人；这些全都是大能的勇士。And Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valour.
9古实人谢拉率领一百万军兵，三百辆战车，出来攻击犹大人，到了玛利沙。And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah.
10亚撒出去迎战，在玛利沙的洗法谷彼此摆阵。Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.
11亚撒呼求耶和华－他的神说：“耶和华啊，在强弱之间，惟有你能帮助。耶和华－我们的神啊，求你帮助我们，因为我们仰赖你，奉你的名来抵挡这大军。耶和华啊，你是我们的神，不要让人胜过你。”And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.
12于是耶和华击打古实人，使他们败在亚撒和犹大人面前，古实人就逃跑了。So the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.
13亚撒和跟随他的军兵追赶他们，直到基拉耳。古实人被杀的很多，无法复原，因为他们在耶和华与他军兵面前被击溃。犹大人夺了许多财物，And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.
14又攻打基拉耳四围一切的城镇；城中的人都惧怕耶和华。犹大人掳掠了一切的城镇，因其中的财物很多，And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.
15又毁坏了群畜的圈，夺取许多的羊和骆驼，就回耶路撒冷去了。They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.
