耶利米在陶匠的家
耶和华的话临到耶利米，说：
The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
2“你起来，下到陶匠的家里去，在那里我要使你听见我的话。”Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
3我就下到陶匠的家里去，看哪，他在转盘上做器皿。Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.
4陶匠用泥做的器皿在他手中做坏了，他就用它另做别的器皿，照他看为好的去做。And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.
5耶和华的话临到我，说：Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
6“以色列家啊，我待你们岂不能像这陶匠弄泥吗？以色列家，看哪，泥在陶匠的手中怎样，你们在我的手中也怎样。这是耶和华说的。O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.
7我何时论到一邦或一国说，要拔出、拆毁、毁坏；At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it;
8我所说的那一邦若回转离开他们的恶，我就改变心意，不将我想要施行的灾祸降与他们。If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.
9我何时论到一邦或一国说，要建立、栽植；And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;
10他们若行我眼中看为恶的事，不听从我的话，我就改变心意，不将我所说的福气赐给他们。If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them.
11现在你要对犹大人和耶路撒冷的居民说：‘耶和华如此说：看哪，我捏塑灾祸降给你们，定意惩罚你们。你们各人当回转离开所行的恶道，改正你们的所作所为。’Now therefore go to, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good.
12“他们却说：‘没有用的，我们要照自己的计谋去行，各人要随自己顽梗的恶心行事。’”百姓忘记耶和华
And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart.
13“所以，耶和华如此说： 你们且往各国访问， 有谁听见这样的事？ 少女以色列行了一件极恐怖的事。Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ask ye now among the heathen, who hath heard such things: the virgin of Israel hath done a very horrible thing.
14黎巴嫩的雪岂能从田野☛“田野”：原文另译“西连”（黎巴嫩山顶）或“全能者”（参创17．1）。的磐石上融化呢？ 从远处☛“远处”：原文是“外国”；原文另译“山上”。流下的凉水岂能干涸呢？Will a man leave the snow of Lebanon which cometh from the rock of the field? or shall the cold flowing waters that come from another place be forsaken?
15我的百姓竟忘记我， 向那虚无的神明☛“虚无的神明”：原文是“虚无”。烧香， 它们使百姓在所行的路上、在古道上绊跌， 去行未修筑的斜路，Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up;
16他们的地就变为荒凉， 长久被人嘲笑； 凡经过这地的必惊骇摇头。To make their land desolate, and a perpetual hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished, and wag his head.
17在仇敌面前，我必如东风刮散他们， 遭难的日子，我要以背向他们， 不以脸看他们。”谋害耶利米
I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will shew them the back, and not the face, in the day of their calamity.
18他们说：“来吧！让我们设计谋害耶利米；因为我们有祭司讲律法，有智慧人设谋略，有先知说预言，都未曾断绝。来吧！让我们用舌头攻击他，不要理他一切的话。”Then said they, Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.
19耶和华啊，求你留心听我， 且听那些指控我的人的话。Give heed to me, O LORD, and hearken to the voice of them that contend with me.
20人岂可以恶报善呢？ 他们竟挖坑要害我的性命！ 求你记念我站在你面前为他们说好话， 要使你的愤怒转离他们。Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before thee to speak good for them, and to turn away thy wrath from them.
21因此，愿他们的儿女忍受饥荒， 愿他们死于刀剑之手； 愿他们的妻无子，且作寡妇， 愿他们的男人被死亡所灭， 他们的壮丁在阵上被刀击杀。Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and pour out their blood by the force of the sword; and let their wives be bereaved of their children, and be widows; and let their men be put to death; let their young men be slain by the sword in battle.
22你使敌军忽然临到他们的时候， 愿人听见哀声从他们的屋内发出； 因他们挖坑要捉拿我， 暗设罗网要绊我的脚。Let a cry be heard from their houses, when thou shalt bring a troop suddenly upon them: for they have digged a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet.
23耶和华啊，他们要杀我的那一切计谋， 你都知道。 求你不要赦免他们的罪孽， 也不要从你面前涂去他们的罪恶。 愿他们在你面前跌倒， 愿你在发怒的时候对付他们。Yet, LORD, thou knowest all their counsel against me to slay me: forgive not their iniquity, neither blot out their sin from thy sight, but let them be overthrown before thee; deal thus with them in the time of thine anger.
