派遣探子进迦南
（申1．19－33）
耶和华吩咐摩西说：
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2“你要派人去窥探我所赐给以色列人的迦南地；每个父系支派要派一个人，是他们中间的族长。”Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler among them.
3摩西就遵照耶和华的指示，从巴兰旷野差派他们去；他们都是以色列人中的领袖。And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness of Paran: all those men were heads of the children of Israel.
4这是他们的名字： 属吕便支派的，撒刻的儿子沙母亚。And these were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur.
5属西缅支派的，何利的儿子沙法。Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori.
6属犹大支派的，耶孚尼的儿子迦勒。Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.
7属以萨迦支派的，约色的儿子以迦。Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph.
8属以法莲支派的，嫩的儿子何西阿☛“何西阿”和何西阿先知同名；下同。。Of the tribe of Ephraim, Oshea the son of Nun.
9属便雅悯支派的，拉孚的儿子帕提。Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu.
10属西布伦支派的，梭底的儿子迦叠。Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi.
11属约瑟支派，就是玛拿西支派的，稣西的儿子迦底。Of the tribe of Joseph, namely, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi.
12属但支派的，基玛利的儿子亚米利。Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli.
13属亚设支派的，米迦勒的儿子西帖。Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael.
14属拿弗他利支派的，缚西的儿子拿比。Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi.
15属迦得支派的，玛基的儿子臼利。Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.
16这些是摩西差派去窥探那地之人的名字。摩西叫嫩的儿子何西阿为约书亚。These are the names of the men which Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Oshea the son of Nun Jehoshua.
17摩西差派他们去窥探迦南地，对他们说：“你们上到尼革夫☛“尼革夫”是音译，意思是“旷野干旱的地方”，指“南方之地”；本卷书下同。那里，上到山区去，And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this way southward, and go up into the mountain:
18看看那地如何：住那里的百姓是强是弱，是多是少，And see the land, what it is; and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many;
19他们所住的地是好是坏，所住的城镇是营地还是堡垒，And what the land is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad; and what cities they be that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds;
20那地是肥沃还是贫瘠，当中有树木没有。你们要放胆，把那地的果子带些回来。”那时正是葡萄初熟的季节。And what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the firstripe grapes.
21他们上去窥探那地，从寻的旷野到利合，直到哈马口。So they went up, and searched the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, as men come to Hamath.
22他们从尼革夫上去，到了希伯仑。在那里有亚衲族的亚希幔人、示筛人和挞买人。希伯仑的建造比埃及的琐安早七年。And they ascended by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)
23他们到了以实各谷，从那里砍下葡萄树枝，上面有一挂葡萄，两个人用杠抬着，又带了一些石榴和无花果。And they came unto the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it between two upon a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs.
24以色列人从那里砍下一挂葡萄，所以那地方就叫以实各谷。探子的报告
The place was called the brook Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from thence.
25他们窥探那地四十天之后，就回来了。And they returned from searching of the land after forty days.
26他们来到巴兰旷野的加低斯，摩西、亚伦，以及以色列全会众那里，向他们和全会众报告，又把那地的果子给他们看。And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land.
27他们告诉摩西说：“我们到了你派我们去的那地，果然是流奶与蜜之地；这就是那地的果子。And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.
28但是住那地的百姓很强悍，城镇又大又坚固，我们也在那里看见了亚衲族人。Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.
29亚玛力人住在尼革夫；赫人、耶布斯人和亚摩利人住在山区；迦南人住在沿海一带和约旦河旁。”The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.
30迦勒在摩西面前安抚百姓，说：“我们立刻上去得那地吧！我们必能征服它。”And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.
31但那些和他同去的人却说：“我们不能上去攻打那些百姓，因为他们比我们强大。”But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.
32于是探子中有人向以色列人散布有关所窥探之地的谣言，说：“我们所走过、所窥探之地是吞没居民之地，并且我们在那里所看见的百姓都身材高大。And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.
33我们在那里看见巨人，就是巨人中的亚衲族人。我们在自己眼中像蚱蜢一样，而在他们眼中，我们也确是这样。”And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
