以色列人抱怨
全会众大声喧嚷，那夜百姓哭号。
And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.
2以色列众人向摩西和亚伦发怨言，全会众对他们说：“我们宁愿死在埃及地，宁愿死在这旷野！And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!
3耶和华为什么要把我们领到那地，让我们倒在刀下呢？我们的妻子和孩子必成为掳物。我们回埃及去岂不更好吗？”And wherefore hath the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt?
4他们彼此说：“我们不如选一个领袖，回埃及去吧！”And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.
5摩西和亚伦在以色列全会众面前脸伏于地。Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.
6窥探那地的人中，嫩的儿子约书亚和耶孚尼的儿子迦勒撕裂衣服，And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes:
7对以色列全会众说：“我们所走过、所窥探之地是极美之地。And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.
8耶和华若喜爱我们，就必领我们进入那地，把这流奶与蜜之地赐给我们。If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.
9但你们不可背叛耶和华，也不要怕那地的百姓，因为他们是我们的食物。保护他们的已经离开他们，耶和华却与我们同在。不要怕他们！”Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not.
10当全会众正说着要拿石头打死他们的时候，耶和华的荣光在会幕中向以色列众人显现。摩西为以色列人祷告
But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.
11耶和华对摩西说：“这百姓藐视我要到几时呢？我在他们中间行了这一切神迹，他们还不信我要到几时呢？And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them?
12我要用瘟疫击杀他们，使他们不得承受那地。我要使你成为大国，比他们强大。”I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.
13摩西对耶和华说：“埃及人必听见，因你曾施展大能，领这百姓从他们中间出来。And Moses said unto the LORD, Then the Egyptians shall hear it, (for thou broughtest up this people in thy might from among them;)
14埃及人要告诉这地的居民，他们已经听见你─耶和华是在这百姓中间，因为你─耶和华面对面☛“面对面”：原文是“眼对眼”。显示自己，你的云彩停在他们以上。你日间在云柱中，夜间在火柱中，在他们的前面行。And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that thou LORD art among this people, that thou LORD art seen face to face, and that thy cloud standeth over them, and that thou goest before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night.
15你若把这百姓杀了，好像杀一个人那样，那听见你名声的列国必说：Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,
16‘耶和华因为不能把这百姓领进他向他们起誓应许之地，所以在旷野把他们杀了。’Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.
17现在求主显出大能，照你说过的话说：And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my LORD be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,
18‘耶和华不轻易发怒， 且有丰盛的慈爱。 他赦免罪孽和过犯， 万不以有罪的为无罪， 必惩罚人的罪， 从父到子，直到三、四代。’The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.
19求你照你的大慈爱赦免这百姓的罪孽，好像你从埃及到如今饶恕这百姓一样。”Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.
20耶和华说：“我照着你的话赦免他们。And the LORD said, I have pardoned according to thy word:
21然而，我指着我的永生与遍地充满了耶和华的荣耀起誓：But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.
22这些人虽然都看过我的荣耀和我在埃及与旷野所行的神迹，仍然这十次试探我，不听从我的话，Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;
23他们绝不能看见我向他们祖宗所起誓应许之地；凡藐视我的，一个也不得看见。Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it:
24惟独我的仆人迦勒，因他另有一个心志，专心跟从我，我要领他进入他所去过的那地；他的后裔必得那地为业。But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.
25亚玛力人和迦南人住在谷中，明天你们要转回去，沿着红海☛“红海”是根据七十士译本，原文是“芦苇海”；本卷书下同。的路往旷野去。”以色列人受惩罚
(Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) Tomorrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.
26耶和华对摩西和亚伦说：And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
27“这邪恶的会众向我发怨言要到几时呢？以色列人向我发的怨言，我都听见了。How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.
28你要告诉他们，耶和华说：‘我指着我的永生起誓，我必照你们在我耳中所说的待你们。Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:
29你们的尸体必倒在这旷野中。你们中间被数点，凡二十岁以上向我发怨言的，Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, which have murmured against me,
30必不得进我所起誓应许给你们居住的那地。惟有耶孚尼的儿子迦勒和嫩的儿子约书亚才能进去。Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
31你们的孩子，就是你们说要成为掳物的，我必领他们进去，他们就得知你们所厌弃的那地。But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised.
32至于你们，你们的尸体必倒在这旷野中；But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness.
33你们的儿女必在旷野游牧四十年，担当你们不信的罪☛“不信的罪”：原文是“淫行”。，直到你们的尸体在旷野消灭为止。And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.
34按你们窥探那地的四十日，一年抵一日，你们要担当你们的罪孽四十年，你们就知道我疏远你们了。’After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.
35我－耶和华说过，我必这样对待这一切聚集对抗我的邪恶会众。他们必在这旷野中消灭，死在这里。”I the LORD have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.
36摩西所差派去窥探那地的人回来，散布有关那地的谣言，使全会众向摩西发怨言，And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land,
37这些散布谣言的人都遭受瘟疫，死在耶和华面前。Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD.
38窥探那地的人中，惟有嫩的儿子约书亚和耶孚尼的儿子迦勒得以存活。进攻迦南却被击退

But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still.
39摩西把这些话告诉以色列众人，他们都极其悲哀。And Moses told these sayings unto all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.
40他们清晨起来，上到山顶，说：“看哪，我们要上到耶和华所说的地方；因为我们犯了罪。”And they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which the LORD hath promised: for we have sinned.
41摩西说：“你们为何要这样违背耶和华的指示呢？这事必不能顺利。And Moses said, Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of the LORD? but it shall not prosper.
42不要上去，因为耶和华不在你们中间，恐怕你们在仇敌面前被击败。Go not up, for the LORD is not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies.
43亚玛力人和迦南人都在你们面前，你们必倒在刀下。因为你们背离不跟从耶和华，耶和华必不与你们同在。”For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword: because ye are turned away from the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you.
44他们却擅自上到山顶。但耶和华的约柜和摩西都没有离开营地。But they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, departed not out of the camp.
45于是亚玛力人和住在那山区的迦南人下来，击败他们，追击他们直到何珥玛。Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites which dwelt in that hill, and smote them, and discomfited them, even unto Hormah.
