神与亚伯兰立约
这些事以后，耶和华的话在异象中临到亚伯兰，说：“亚伯兰哪，不要惧怕！我是你的盾牌，你必得丰富的赏赐。”
After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
2亚伯兰说：“主耶和华啊，我还没有儿子，你能赐我什么呢？承受我家业的是大马士革人以利以谢。”And Abram said, LORD God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?
3亚伯兰又说：“看哪，你没有给我后嗣。你看，那生在我家中的人要继承我。”And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.
4看哪，耶和华的话又临到他，说：“这人不会继承你，你本身所生的才会继承你。”And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.
5于是耶和华带他到外面，说：“你向天观看，去数星星，你能数得清吗？”又对他说：“你的后裔将要如此。”And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
6亚伯兰信耶和华，耶和华就以此算他为义。And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.
7耶和华又对他说：“我是耶和华，曾领你出迦勒底的吾珥，为要把这地赐你为业。”And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.
8亚伯兰说：“主耶和华啊，我怎能知道我必得这地为业呢？”And he said, LORD God, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?
9耶和华对他说：“你为我取一头三岁的母牛犊，一只三岁的母山羊，一只三岁的公绵羊，一只斑鸠和一只雏鸽。”And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.
10亚伯兰就把这些都取来，每样从中间劈成两半，一半对着另一半排列，只有鸟没有劈开。And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.
11当鸷鸟下来，落在这些尸体上时，亚伯兰就把它们赶走了。And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.
12日落的时候，亚伯兰沉睡了。看哪，有大而可怕的黑暗落在他身上。And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.
13耶和华对亚伯兰说：“你要确实知道，你的后裔必寄居在别人的地，服事那地的人；那地的人要虐待他们四百年。And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
14但我要惩罚他们所服事的那国，以后他们必带着许多财物从那里出来。And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.
15至于你，你要平平安安归到你祖先那里，必享长寿，被人埋葬。And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.
16到了第四代，他们必回到这里，因为亚摩利人的罪恶到现在还没有满盈。”But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.
17日落天黑的时候，看哪，有冒烟的炉和烧着的火把从那些肉块中经过。And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.
18在那日，耶和华与亚伯兰立约，说：“我已赐给你的后裔这一片地，从埃及河直到大河，幼发拉底河，In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:
19就是基尼人、基尼洗人、甲摩尼人、The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites,
20赫人、比利洗人、利乏音人、And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims,
21亚摩利人、迦南人、革迦撒人、耶布斯人的地。”And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.
