以撒叫了雅各来，为他祝福，并吩咐他说：“你不要娶迦南的女子为妻。
And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.
2你起身往巴旦．亚兰去，到你外祖父彼土利的家，从你舅父拉班的女儿中娶一位作你的妻子。Arise, go to Padanaram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother's father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother's brother.
3愿全能的神赐福给你，使你生养众多，成为许多民族，And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people;
4将应许亚伯拉罕的福赐给你和你的后裔，使你承受你所寄居的地为业，就是神赐给亚伯拉罕的地。”And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham.
5以撒送雅各走了，雅各就往巴旦．亚兰去，到亚兰人彼土利的儿子拉班那里，拉班是利百加的哥哥，利百加是雅各和以扫的母亲。以扫另娶一妻
And Isaac sent away Jacob: and he went to Padanaram unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's and Esau's mother.
6以扫见以撒已经为雅各祝福，而且送他往巴旦．亚兰去，在那里娶妻，并且见以撒祝福雅各的时候吩咐他说：“不要娶迦南的女子为妻”，When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padanaram, to take him a wife from thence; and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;
7又见雅各听从父母的话往巴旦．亚兰去了，And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padanaram;
8以扫就看出他父亲以撒看迦南女子不顺眼。And Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father;
9于是他往以实玛利那里去，在两个妻子之外， 又娶了玛哈拉为妻，她是亚伯拉罕儿子以实玛利的女儿，是尼拜约的妹妹。雅各在伯特利做的梦
Then went Esau unto Ishmael, and took unto the wives which he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham's son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife.
10雅各离开别是巴，往哈兰去。And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran.
11到了一个地方，因为已经日落，就在那里过夜。他拾起那地方的一块石头枕在头下，就躺在那地方。And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.
12他做梦，看哪，一个梯子立在地上，梯子的顶端直伸到天；看哪，神的使者在梯子上，上去下来。And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.
13看哪，耶和华站在梯子上面 ☛“站在梯子上面”或译“站在他旁边”。 ，说：“我是耶和华—你祖父亚伯拉罕的神，以撒的神。你现在躺卧之地，我要将它赐给你和你的后裔。And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;
14你的后裔必像地上的尘沙，必向东西南北开展；地上万族必因你和你的后裔得福。And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
15看哪，我必与你同在，无论你往哪里去，我必保佑你，领你归回这地。我总不离弃你，直到我实现了对你所说的话。”And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.
16雅各睡醒了，说：“耶和华真的在这里，我竟不知道！”And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.
17他就惧怕，说：“这地方何等可畏！这不是别的，是神的殿，是天的门。”And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.
18雅各清早起来，拿起枕在头下的石头，立作柱子，浇油在上面。And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.
19他给那地方起名叫伯特利 ☛“伯特利”意思是“神的殿”。 ；那地方原先名叫路斯。And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.
20雅各许愿说：“神若与我同在，在我所行的路上保佑我，给我食物吃，衣服穿，And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,
21使我平平安安回到我父亲的家，我就必以耶和华为我的神。So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:
22我所立为柱子的这块石头必作神的殿；凡你所赐给我的，我必将十分之一献给你。”And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.
