犹大和她玛
那时，犹大离开他兄弟们下去，到一个名叫希拉的亚杜兰人的家附近支搭帐棚。
And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.
2犹大在那里看见一个名叫拔．书亚的迦南女子，就娶她为妻，与她同房，And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her.
3她就怀孕生了儿子，犹大给他起名叫珥。And she conceived, and bare a son; and he called his name Er.
4她又怀孕生了儿子，给他起名叫俄南。And she conceived again, and bare a son; and she called his name Onan.
5她又再生了儿子，给他起名叫示拉。她生示拉的时候，犹大正在基悉。And she yet again conceived, and bare a son; and called his name Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bare him.
6犹大为长子珥娶妻，名叫她玛。And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name was Tamar.
7犹大的长子珥在耶和华眼中看为恶，耶和华就杀死了他。And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.
8犹大对俄南说：“你当与你哥哥的妻子同房，向她尽你的本分，为你哥哥生子立后。”And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.
9俄南知道如果与嫂嫂同房，所生的孩子不属于自己，就泄在地上，不为哥哥生子立后。And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.
10俄南所做的在耶和华眼中看为恶，耶和华也杀死了他。And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also.
11犹大对他媳妇她玛说：“你去住在你父亲家里守寡，等我儿子示拉长大。”因为他说：“恐怕示拉也像两个哥哥一样死去。”她玛就去，住在她父亲家里。Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter in law, Remain a widow at thy father's house, till Shelah my son be grown: for he said, Lest peradventure he die also, as his brethren did. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house.
12过了一段很长的日子，犹大的妻子，书亚的女儿死了。犹大受到了安慰，就和他朋友亚杜兰人希拉上亭拿去，到他的剪羊毛的人那里。And in process of time the daughter of Shuah Judah's wife died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheepshearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.
13有人告诉她玛说：“看哪，你的公公上亭拿剪羊毛去了。”And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold thy father in law goeth up to Timnath to shear his sheep.
14她玛见示拉已经长大，却还没有娶她为妻，就脱去她寡妇的衣裳，用面纱蒙着，盖住自己，坐在往亭拿的路上，伊拿印城门口。And she put her widow's garments off from her, and covered her with a vail, and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place, which is by the way to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given unto him to wife.
15犹大看见她，以为是妓女，因为她蒙着脸。When Judah saw her, he thought her to be an harlot; because she had covered her face.
16犹大就转到路边她那里，说：“来吧！让我与你同寝。”他并不知道她就是他的媳妇。她玛说：“你要与我同寝，把什么给我呢？”And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Go to, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee; (for he knew not that she was his daughter in law.) And she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me?
17犹大说：“我从羊群里取一只小山羊，派人送来给你。”她玛说：“在未送之前，你能给我一个信物吗？”And he said, I will send thee a kid from the flock. And she said, Wilt thou give me a pledge, till thou send it?
18他说：“我给你什么信物呢？”她玛说：“你的印、你的带子☛“带子”指“系印的带子”；下同。和你手里的杖。”于是犹大给了她，与她同寝，她就从犹大怀了孕。And he said, What pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy signet, and thy bracelets, and thy staff that is in thine hand. And he gave it her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.
19她玛起来走了，除去面纱，照常穿上寡妇的衣裳。And she arose, and went away, and laid by her vail from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood.
20犹大托他朋友亚杜兰人送一只小山羊去，要从那女人手里取回信物，却找不到她。And Judah sent the kid by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman's hand: but he found her not.
21他问那地方的人说：“伊拿印路旁的神庙娼妓在哪里？”他们说：“这里没有神庙娼妓。”Then he asked the men of that place, saying, Where is the harlot, that was openly by the way side? And they said, There was no harlot in this place.
22他回到犹大那里说：“我找不到她，并且那地方的人说：‘这里没有神庙娼妓。’”And he returned to Judah, and said, I cannot find her; and also the men of the place said, that there was no harlot in this place.
23犹大说：“让她拿去吧，免得我们被人讥笑。看哪，我把这小山羊送去了，可是你找不到她。”And Judah said, Let her take it to her, lest we be shamed: behold, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her.
24大约过了三个月，有人告诉犹大说：“你的媳妇她玛行淫，并且，看哪，她因行淫而怀了孕。”犹大说：“拉她出来，把她烧了！”And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.
25她玛被拉出来的时候，就派人到她公公那里，对他说：“这些东西是谁的，我就是从谁怀了孕。”她又说：“请你认一认，这印、这带子和这杖是谁的？”When she was brought forth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said, Discern, I pray thee, whose are these, the signet, and bracelets, and staff.
26犹大承认说：“她比我更有理，因为我没有把她给我的儿子示拉。”犹大再也不跟她同寝。And Judah acknowledged them, and said, She hath been more righteous than I; because that I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more.
27她玛生产的时候到了，看哪，腹里怀的是双胞胎。And it came to pass in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb.
28生产的时候，一个孩子伸出手来；接生婆拿红线绑在他手上，说：“这是头生的。”And it came to pass, when she travailed, that the one put out his hand: and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first.
29这孩子把手收回去，看哪，他哥哥生出来了；接生婆说：“你竟然为自己冲出一个裂缝！”于是，他的名字叫法勒斯☛“法勒斯”意思是“裂缝”。。And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, How hast thou broken forth? this breach be upon thee: therefore his name was called Pharez.
30后来，那手上有红线的兄弟也生出来，他的名字叫谢拉☛“谢拉”意思是“明亮”，也许暗示“鲜红”。。And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand: and his name was called Zarah.
