击败亚扪人和亚兰人
（代上19．1－19）
此后，亚扪人的王死了，他儿子哈嫩接续他作王。
And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his stead.
2大卫说：“哈嫩的父亲拿辖怎样向我施恩，我也要怎样向哈嫩施恩。”于是大卫派臣仆为他的父亲安慰他。当大卫的臣仆到了亚扪人的境内，Then said David, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father shewed kindness unto me. And David sent to comfort him by the hand of his servants for his father. And David's servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.
3亚扪人的领袖对他们的主哈嫩说：“大卫派人来安慰你，你看他是要尊敬你父亲吗？大卫派臣仆到你这里，不是为了要窥探侦察，而倾覆这城吗？”And the princes of the children of Ammon said unto Hanun their lord, Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? hath not David rather sent his servants unto thee, to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?
4哈嫩就抓住大卫的臣仆，把他们的胡须剃去一半，又割断他们下半截的袍子，露出下体，然后放了他们。Wherefore Hanun took David's servants, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.
5有人告诉大卫，他就派人去迎接他们，因为这些人觉得很羞耻。王说：“可以住在耶利哥，等到胡须长出来再回来。”When they told it unto David, he sent to meet them, because the men were greatly ashamed: and the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.
6亚扪人看到大卫憎恶他们，就派人去雇用伯．利合的亚兰人和琐巴的亚兰人，步兵二万，以及玛迦王的人一千、陀伯人一万二千。And when the children of Ammon saw that they stank before David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Bethrehob, and the Syrians of Zoba, twenty thousand footmen, and of king Maacah a thousand men, and of Ishtob twelve thousand men.
7大卫听见了，就派约押和所有勇猛的军队出去。And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.
8亚扪人出来，在城门前摆阵；琐巴与利合的亚兰人、陀伯人，以及玛迦人另外在郊野摆阵。And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entering in of the gate: and the Syrians of Zoba, and of Rehob, and Ishtob, and Maacah, were by themselves in the field.
9约押看见战阵对着他前后摆列，就把从以色列所有精兵中挑选出来的，摆阵迎战亚兰人。When Joab saw that the front of the battle was against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians:
10他把其余的兵交在他兄弟亚比筛手里，亚比筛就摆阵迎战亚扪人。And the rest of the people he delivered into the hand of Abishai his brother, that he might put them in array against the children of Ammon.
11约押对亚比筛说：“亚兰人若强过我，你就来帮助我；亚扪人若强过你，我就去帮助你。And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will come and help thee.
12你要刚强，我们要为自己的百姓，为我们神的城镇奋勇。愿耶和华照他所看为好的去做！”Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the LORD do that which seemeth him good.
13于是，约押和跟随他的士兵前进攻打亚兰人；亚兰人在他面前逃跑。And Joab drew nigh, and the people that were with him, unto the battle against the Syrians: and they fled before him.
14亚扪人见亚兰人逃跑，他们也在亚比筛面前逃跑进城。约押就离开亚扪人，回耶路撒冷去了。And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, then fled they also before Abishai, and entered into the city. So Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.
15亚兰人见自己被以色列打败，就集合起来。And when the Syrians saw that they were smitten before Israel, they gathered themselves together.
16哈大底谢派人去，把大河那边的亚兰人调来；他们到了希兰，由哈大底谢的将军朔法在他们前面率领。And Hadarezer sent, and brought out the Syrians that were beyond the river: and they came to Helam; and Shobach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them.
17有人告诉大卫，他就聚集以色列众人过约旦河，来到希兰。亚兰人迎着大卫摆阵，与他打仗。And when it was told David, he gathered all Israel together, and passed over Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Syrians set themselves in array against David, and fought with him.
18亚兰人在以色列人面前逃跑。大卫杀了亚兰七百辆战车的士兵，四万骑兵☛“骑兵”：七十士译本的一些抄本是“步兵”；参代上19．18。，又击杀亚兰的将军朔法，他就死在那里。And the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew the men of seven hundred chariots of the Syrians, and forty thousand horsemen, and smote Shobach the captain of their host, who died there.
19哈大底谢属下的诸王见自己被以色列打败，就与以色列讲和，臣服他们。于是亚兰人害怕，不再帮助亚扪人了。And when all the kings that were servants to Hadarezer saw that they were smitten before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the Syrians feared to help the children of Ammon any more.
