Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
2要让陌生人夸奖你,不可用口自夸; 让外邦人称赞你,不可用嘴唇称赞自己。Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.
3石头沉,沙土重, 愚妄人的恼怒比这两样更沉重。A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's wrath is heavier than them both.
4愤怒为残忍,怒气像狂澜, 惟有嫉妒,谁能挡得住呢?Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?
5当面的责备 胜过隐藏的爱情。Open rebuke is better than secret love.
6朋友加的伤痕出于忠诚; 敌人的亲吻却是多余。Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
7人吃饱了,厌恶蜂房的蜜; 人饥饿了,一切苦物都觉甘甜。The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
8人离故乡漂泊, 就像雀鸟离窝四处飞翔。As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.
9膏油与香料使人心喜悦, 朋友诚心的劝勉也是如此甘美。Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.
10你的朋友和父亲的朋友, 你都不可离弃。 你遭难时,不要上兄弟的家去; 相近的邻舍强如远方的兄弟。Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.
11我儿啊,你要做智慧人,好叫我的心欢喜, 使我可以回答那辱骂我的人。My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me.
12通达人见祸就藏躲; 愚蒙人却前往受害。A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.
13谁为陌生人担保,就拿谁的衣服; 谁为外邦女子作保,谁就要承当。Take his garment that is surety for a stranger, and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.
14清晨起来大声给朋友祝福的, 就算是诅咒他。He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.
15下雨天连连滴漏, 好争吵的妇人就像这样;A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.
16拦阻她的,就是拦阻风, 又像用右手抓油。Whosoever hideth her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand, which bewrayeth itself.
17以铁磨铁,越磨越利, 朋友当面琢磨,也是如此。Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
18看守无花果树的,必吃树上的果子; 敬奉主人的,必得尊荣。Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.
19水中照脸,彼此相符; 人心相映,也是如此。As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.
20阴间和冥府☛“冥府”:原文音译“亚巴顿”,意思是“灭亡之地”。永不满足, 人的眼目也是如此。Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.
21鼎为炼银,炉为炼金, 口中的称赞也试炼人。As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise.
22用杵把愚妄人与谷粒一同捣在臼中, 他的愚昧还是离不了他。Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.
23你要详细知道你羊群的景况, 留心照顾你的牛群,Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.
24因为财富不能永留, 冠冕岂能存到万代?For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?
25青草除去,嫩草长出, 山上的菜蔬也被采收。The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.
26绵羊可以做衣服, 公山羊可作田地的价值,The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field.
27并有母山羊奶够你吃, 够你养家和女仆的生活。And thou shalt have goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens.
