Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.
2因为他们的心图谋暴行, 他们的嘴唇谈论奸恶。For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.
3房屋因智慧建造, 因聪明立稳;Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:
4又因知识, 屋内充满各样美好宝贵的财物。And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
5有智慧的勇士大有能力, 有知识的人力上加力。A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.
6你去打仗,要凭智谋; 谋士众多,就必得胜。For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.
7对愚妄人,智慧高不可及, 所以他在城门不敢开口。Wisdom is too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.
8图谋行恶的, 必称为奸诈人。He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.
9愚妄人的筹划尽是罪恶, 傲慢者为人所憎恶。The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.
10在患难时你若灰心, 你的力量就微小。If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.
11人被拉到死亡,你要解救; 人将被杀,你须拦阻。If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain;
12你若说:“看哪,这事我们不知道”, 那衡量人心的岂不明白吗? 保护你性命的岂不知道吗? 他岂不按各人所做的报应各人吗?If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?
13我儿啊,你要吃蜜,因为它是美好的, 要让甘甜的蜜滴入你的口。My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste:
14你要知道,智慧对你的生命正像如此。 你若找着,必有前途, 你的指望也不致断绝。So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.
15你这恶人,不可埋伏攻击义人的家, 也不可毁坏他安居之所。Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place:
16因为义人虽七次跌倒,仍必兴起; 恶人却被祸患倾倒。For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.
17你的仇敌跌倒,你不要欢喜, 他倾倒,你的心不要快乐;Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:
18恐怕耶和华看见就不喜悦, 将怒气从仇敌身上转过来。Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.
19不要为作恶的心怀不平, 也不要嫉妒恶人,Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked;
20因为坏人没有前途, 恶人的灯也必熄灭。For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.
21我儿啊,你要敬畏耶和华与君王, 不可结交反覆无常的人,My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change:
22因为他们的灾难必忽然兴起。 谁能知道耶和华与君王所施行的毁灭呢?其他智言
For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?
23以下也是智慧人的箴言: 审判时看人情面是不好的。These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.
24对恶人说“你是义人”的, 万民必诅咒,万族必恼恨。He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him:
25责备恶人的,必得喜悦, 美好的福分也必临到他。But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.
26应对合宜的, 犹如与人亲吻。Every man shall kiss his lips that giveth a right answer.
27你要在外面预备材料, 在田间为自己准备齐全, 然后才建造你的房屋。Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house.
28不可无故作证反对邻舍, 也不可用嘴唇欺骗人。Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips.
29不可说:“人怎样待我,我也怎样待他, 我必照他所做的报复他。”Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.
30我经过懒惰人的田地, 走过无知人的葡萄园,I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;
31看哪,它长满了荆棘, 荨麻盖地面, 石墙也坍塌了。And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.
32我看见就留心思想, 我看着就领受训诲。Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.
33再睡片时,打盹片时, 抱着双臂躺卧片时,Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
34你的贫穷就如盗贼来到, 你的贫乏仿佛拿盾牌的人来临。So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.
