He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
2义人增多,民就喜乐; 恶人掌权,民就叹息。When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
3爱慕智慧的,使父亲喜乐; 结交妓女的,却浪费钱财。Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance.
4王藉公平,使国坚定; 强索贡物的,使它毁坏。The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it.
5谄媚邻舍的, 就是设网罗绊他的脚。A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his feet.
6恶人犯罪,自陷圈套; 惟独义人欢呼喜乐。In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: but the righteous doth sing and rejoice.
7义人关注贫寒人的案情; 恶人不明了这种知识。The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it.
8傲慢人煽动全城; 智慧人止息众怒。Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath.
9智慧人与愚妄人有争讼, 或怒或笑,总不得安宁。If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.
10好流人血的,恨恶完全人, 正直人却顾惜☛“顾惜”:原文是“寻索”。他的性命。The bloodthirsty hate the upright: but the just seek his soul.
11愚昧人怒气全发; 智慧人自我平息。A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.
12君王若听谎言, 他一切臣仆都是奸恶。If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked.
13穷乏人和欺压者相遇☛“相遇”或译“是一样的”。, 耶和华使他们的眼目明亮。The poor and the deceitful man meet together: the LORD lighteneth both their eyes.
14君王凭诚信判断贫寒人, 他的国位必永远坚立。The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.
15杖打和责备能增加智慧; 任性的少年使母亲羞愧。The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.
16恶人多,过犯也加多, 义人必看见他们败亡。When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall.
17管教你的儿子,他就使你得安宁, 也使你心里喜乐。Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.
18没有异象☛“异象”或译“默示”。,民就放肆; 惟遵守律法的,便为有福。Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
19仆人不能靠言语受教; 他即使明白,也不回应。A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer.
20你见过言语急躁的人吗? 愚昧人比他更有指望。Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
21人将仆人从小娇养, 至终必带来忧伤☛“至终必带来忧伤”或译“这仆人至终必成了他的继承人”。。He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him become his son at the length.
22好生气的人挑起争端, 暴怒的人多多犯错。An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.
23人的高傲使自己蒙羞; 心里谦逊的,必得尊荣。A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
24与盗贼分赃的,是恨恶自己的性命; 他虽听见发誓的声音,也不告诉人。Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing, and bewrayeth it not.
25惧怕人的,陷入圈套; 惟有倚靠耶和华的,必得安稳。The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.
26求王恩的人多; 人获公正来自耶和华。Many seek the ruler's favour; but every man's judgment cometh from the LORD.
27不义之人,义人憎恶; 行事正直的,恶人憎恶。An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.
