约瑟进去告诉法老说：“我的父亲和我的兄弟带着羊群牛群，以及他们一切所有的，从迦南地来了。看哪，他们正在歌珊地。”
Then Joseph came and told Pharaoh, and said, My father and my brethren, and their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have, are come out of the land of Canaan; and, behold, they are in the land of Goshen.
2约瑟从他所有兄弟中挑选五个人，引他们到法老面前。And he took some of his brethren, even five men, and presented them unto Pharaoh.
3法老对约瑟的兄弟说：“你们是做什么的？”他们对法老说：“你仆人是牧羊的，我们和我们的祖宗都是这样。”And Pharaoh said unto his brethren, What is your occupation? And they said unto Pharaoh, Thy servants are shepherds, both we, and also our fathers.
4他们又对法老说：“迦南地的饥荒非常严重，仆人的羊群没有牧草，所以我们来到这地寄居。现在求你准许仆人住在歌珊地。”They said moreover unto Pharaoh, For to sojourn in the land are we come; for thy servants have no pasture for their flocks; for the famine is sore in the land of Canaan: now therefore, we pray thee, let thy servants dwell in the land of Goshen.
5法老对约瑟说：“你的父亲和你的兄弟到你这里来了，And Pharaoh spake unto Joseph, saying, Thy father and thy brethren are come unto thee:
6埃及地都在你面前，只管让你父亲和你兄弟住在最好的地，他们可以住在歌珊地。你若知道他们中间有能干的人，就派他们看管我的牲畜。”The land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell: and if thou knowest any men of activity among them, then make them rulers over my cattle.
7约瑟带他父亲雅各来，站在法老面前，雅各就为法老祝福。And Joseph brought in Jacob his father, and set him before Pharaoh: and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.
8法老对雅各说：“你平生的年日是多少呢？”And Pharaoh said unto Jacob, How old art thou?
9雅各对法老说：“我在世寄居的年日是一百三十年，我一生的岁月又短又苦，比不上我祖先在世寄居的年日。”And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are an hundred and thirty years: few and evil have the days of the years of my life been, and have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.
10雅各又为法老祝福，就从法老面前退出去了。And Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and went out from before Pharaoh.
11约瑟安顿他的父亲和兄弟，遵照法老的命令，把埃及境内最好的地，就是兰塞地，给他们作为产业。And Joseph placed his father and his brethren, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.
12约瑟用粮食供给他父亲和兄弟们，以及他父亲全家的人，照扶养亲属的人口供给。And Joseph nourished his father, and his brethren, and all his father's household, with bread, according to their families.
严重的饥荒
13饥荒非常严重，全地都绝了粮，埃及地和迦南地都因饥荒耗损了。And there was no bread in all the land; for the famine was very sore, so that the land of Egypt and all the land of Canaan fainted by reason of the famine.
14约瑟收集了埃及地和迦南地所有的银子，就是众人买粮的银子，约瑟就把那些银子都带到法老的宫里。And Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, for the corn which they bought: and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh's house.
15埃及地和迦南地的银子都花光了，埃及众人到约瑟那里，说：“我们的银子都用完了，求你给我们粮食吧！我们为什么要死在你面前呢？”And when money failed in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came unto Joseph, and said, Give us bread: for why should we die in thy presence? for the money faileth.
16约瑟说：“银子若是用完了，可以把你们的牲畜卖给我，我就以你们的牲畜换粮食给你们。”And Joseph said, Give your cattle; and I will give you for your cattle, if money fail.
17于是他们把牲畜带到约瑟那里，约瑟就拿粮食换了他们的马、羊、牛、驴；那一年他因换他们一切的牲畜，用粮食养活他们。And they brought their cattle unto Joseph: and Joseph gave them bread in exchange for horses, and for the flocks, and for the cattle of the herds, and for the asses: and he fed them with bread for all their cattle for that year.
18那一年过去，第二年他们又来到约瑟那里，对他说：“不瞒我主，我们的银子都花光了，牲畜也都归于我主了。我们在我主面前，除了自己的身体和土地以外，一无所剩。When that year was ended, they came unto him the second year, and said unto him, We will not hide it from my lord, how that our money is spent; my lord also hath our herds of cattle; there is not ought left in the sight of my lord, but our bodies, and our lands:
19你为什么要眼看着我们人死地荒呢？求你用粮食买我们和我们的地，我们和我们的地就要为法老效力。求你给我们种子，使我们可以存活，不致死亡，土地也不致荒芜。”Wherefore shall we die before thine eyes, both we and our land? buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants unto Pharaoh: and give us seed, that we may live, and not die, that the land be not desolate.
20于是，约瑟为法老买了埃及所有的土地，埃及人因饥荒所迫，都卖了自己的田地；那些地都归给法老了。And Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for the Egyptians sold every man his field, because the famine prevailed over them: so the land became Pharaoh's.
21至于百姓，从埃及边界的一端到另一端，约瑟使他们作奴隶。☛本节是根据撒玛利亚五经和七十士译本；原文是“至于百姓，约瑟把他们迁移到城镇中，从埃及边界的一端到另一端。”And as for the people, he removed them to cities from one end of the borders of Egypt even to the other end thereof.
22只有祭司的土地，约瑟没有买，因为祭司从法老领取薪俸，靠法老的薪俸过活，所以没有卖自己的土地。Only the land of the priests bought he not; for the priests had a portion assigned them of Pharaoh, and did eat their portion which Pharaoh gave them: wherefore they sold not their lands.
23约瑟对百姓说：“看哪，我今日为法老买了你们和你们的土地。看哪，这些种子是给你们的，你们可以耕种土地。Then Joseph said unto the people, Behold, I have bought you this day and your land for Pharaoh: lo, here is seed for you, and ye shall sow the land.
24将来收割的时候，你们要把五分之一纳给法老，另外四分可以给你们作田地的种子，作你们和你们全家大小的食物。”And it shall come to pass in the increase, that ye shall give the fifth part unto Pharaoh, and four parts shall be your own, for seed of the field, and for your food, and for them of your households, and for food for your little ones.
25他们说：“你救了我们的性命，愿我们在我主眼前蒙恩，我们情愿作法老的奴隶。”And they said, Thou hast saved our lives: let us find grace in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh's servants.
26于是约瑟为埃及的土地立下定例，直到今日，就是收成的五分之一要归法老。惟独祭司的土地例外，不归于法老。And Joseph made it a law over the land of Egypt unto this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth part; except the land of the priests only, which became not Pharaoh's.
雅各最后的吩咐
27以色列人住在埃及境内的歌珊地。他们在那里得了产业，并且生养众多。And Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the country of Goshen; and they had possessions therein, and grew, and multiplied exceedingly.
28雅各住在埃及地十七年。雅各一生的年日是一百四十七年。And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years: so the whole age of Jacob was an hundred forty and seven years.
29以色列的死期快到了，就叫了他儿子约瑟来，对他说：“我若在你眼前蒙恩，把你的手放在我大腿底下，以慈爱和诚实向我承诺，必不将我葬在埃及。And the time drew nigh that Israel must die: and he called his son Joseph, and said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy sight, put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me; bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt:
30我与我祖先同睡的时候，你要将我带出埃及，把我葬在他们所葬的地方。”约瑟说：“我必遵照你的吩咐去做。”But I will lie with my fathers, and thou shalt carry me out of Egypt, and bury me in their buryingplace. And he said, I will do as thou hast said.
31雅各说：“你向我起誓吧！”约瑟就向他起了誓。于是以色列在床头☛“在床头”或译“扶着杖头”。敬拜。And he said, Swear unto me. And he sware unto him. And Israel bowed himself upon the bed's head.
