神呼召亚伯兰
耶和华对亚伯兰说：“你要离开本地、本族、父家，往我所要指示你的地去。
Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
2我必使你成为大国，我必赐福给你，使你的名为大；你要使别人得福☛“你要使别人得福”：原文是“你要成为福气”。。And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
3为你祝福的，我必赐福给他；诅咒你的，我必诅咒他。地上的万族都必因你得福。”And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
4亚伯兰就遵照耶和华的吩咐去了；罗得也和他同去。亚伯兰离开哈兰的时候年七十五岁。So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.
5亚伯兰带着他妻子撒莱和侄儿罗得，以及他们在哈兰积蓄的财物、获得的人口，往迦南地去。他们就来到了迦南地。And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.
6亚伯兰经过那地，直到示剑地方，摩利橡树那里；当时迦南人住在那地。And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.
7耶和华向亚伯兰显现，说：“我要把这地赐给你的后裔。”亚伯兰就在那里为向他显现的耶和华筑了一座坛。And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.
8从那里他又迁到伯特利东边的山，支搭帐棚；西边是伯特利，东边是艾。他在那里又为耶和华筑了一座坛，求告耶和华的名。And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.
9后来亚伯兰渐渐迁往尼革夫☛“尼革夫”是音译，意思是“旷野干旱的地方”，指“南方之地”；本卷书下同。去。And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south.
亚伯兰到埃及
10那地遭遇饥荒。亚伯兰因那地的饥荒严重，就下到埃及，要在那里寄居。And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the land.
11将近埃及，他对妻子撒莱说：“看哪，我知道你是美貌的女人。And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon:
12埃及人看见你会说：‘这是他的妻子’，他们就会杀我，却让你活着。Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.
13所以，请你说你是我的妹妹，使我可以因你得平安，我的性命也因你存活。”Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.
14亚伯兰到达埃及时，埃及人看见那女人极其美貌。And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.
15法老的臣仆看见了她，就在法老面前称赞她。那女人就被带进法老的宫中。The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house.
16法老就因她厚待亚伯兰，给了亚伯兰许多牛、羊、公驴、奴仆、婢女、母驴、骆驼。And he entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels.
17耶和华因亚伯兰妻子撒莱的缘故，降大灾击打法老和他的全家。And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram's wife.
18法老召了亚伯兰来，说：“你向我做的是什么事呢？为什么没有告诉我她是你的妻子？And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?
19为什么说‘她是我的妹妹’，以致我把她接来要作我的妻子呢？现在 ，看哪，你的妻子在这里，带她走吧！”Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.
20于是法老吩咐人把亚伯兰和他妻子，以及他一切所有的都送走了。And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.
