约瑟用计留住便雅悯
约瑟吩咐管家说：“按照他们的驴子所能驮的，把这些人的袋子装满粮食，再把各人的银子放在各人的袋口上，
And he commanded the steward of his house, saying, Fill the men's sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put every man's money in his sack's mouth.
2我的杯，就是那个银杯，要和买粮的银子一同放在最年轻的那个人的袋口上。”管家就照约瑟所说的话去做了。And put my cup, the silver cup, in the sack's mouth of the youngest, and his corn money. And he did according to the word that Joseph had spoken.
3天一亮，这些人和他们的驴子就被送走了。As soon as the morning was light, the men were sent away, they and their asses.
4他们出城走了不远，约瑟对管家说：“起来，去追那些人，追上了就对他们说：‘你们为什么以恶报善呢？And when they were gone out of the city, and not yet far off, Joseph said unto his steward, Up, follow after the men; and when thou dost overtake them, say unto them, Wherefore have ye rewarded evil for good?
5这不是我主人用来饮酒，确实用它来占卜的吗？你们这么做是不对的！’”Is not this it in which my lord drinketh, and whereby indeed he divineth? ye have done evil in so doing.
6管家追上他们，把这些话对他们说了。And he overtook them, and he spake unto them these same words.
7他们对他说：“我主为什么说这样的话呢？你仆人们绝不会做这样的事。And they said unto him, Wherefore saith my lord these words? God forbid that thy servants should do according to this thing:
8看哪，我们从前在袋口上发现的银子，尚且从迦南地带来还你，我们又怎么会从你主人家里偷窃金银呢？Behold, the money, which we found in our sacks' mouths, we brought again unto thee out of the land of Canaan: how then should we steal out of thy lord's house silver or gold?
9你仆人中无论在谁那里找到杯子，就叫他死，我们也要作我主的奴隶。”With whomsoever of thy servants it be found, both let him die, and we also will be my lord's bondmen.
10管家说：“现在就照你们的话做吧！在谁那里找到杯子，谁就作我的奴隶，其余的人都没有罪。”And he said, Now also let it be according unto your words: he with whom it is found shall be my servant; and ye shall be blameless.
11于是他们各人急忙把袋子卸在地上，各人打开自己的袋子。Then they speedily took down every man his sack to the ground, and opened every man his sack.
12管家就搜查，从年长的开始到年幼的为止，那杯竟在便雅悯的袋子里找到了。And he searched, and began at the eldest, and left at the youngest: and the cup was found in Benjamin's sack.
13他们就撕裂衣服，各人把驮子抬在驴上，回城去了。Then they rent their clothes, and laded every man his ass, and returned to the city.
14犹大和他兄弟们来到约瑟的屋里，约瑟还在那里，他们就在他面前俯伏于地。And Judah and his brethren came to Joseph's house; for he was yet there: and they fell before him on the ground.
15约瑟对他们说：“你们做的是什么事呢？你们岂不知像我这样的人必懂得占卜吗？”And Joseph said unto them, What deed is this that ye have done? wot ye not that such a man as I can certainly divine?
16犹大说：“我们对我主能说什么呢？还有什么话可说呢？我们还能为自己表白吗？神已经查出你仆人的罪孽了。看哪，我们与那在他手中找到杯子的人都是我主的奴隶。”And Judah said, What shall we say unto my lord? what shall we speak? or how shall we clear ourselves? God hath found out the iniquity of thy servants: behold, we are my lord's servants, both we, and he also with whom the cup is found.
17约瑟说：“我绝不能做这样的事！谁的手中找到杯子，谁就作我的奴隶。至于你们，可以平平安安上到你们父亲那里去。”And he said, God forbid that I should do so: but the man in whose hand the cup is found, he shall be my servant; and as for you, get you up in peace unto your father.
犹大替便雅悯哀求
18犹大挨近他，说：“我主啊，求求你，让仆人说一句话给我主听，不要向仆人发烈怒，因为你如同法老一样。Then Judah came near unto him, and said, Oh my lord, let thy servant, I pray thee, speak a word in my lord's ears, and let not thine anger burn against thy servant: for thou art even as Pharaoh.
19我主曾问仆人们说：‘你们有父亲、兄弟没有？’My lord asked his servants, saying, Have ye a father, or a brother?
20我们对我主说：‘我们有父亲，他已经年老，还有他老年所生的一个小儿子。他哥哥死了，他的母亲只剩下他一个孩子，父亲也疼爱他。’And we said unto my lord, We have a father, an old man, and a child of his old age, a little one; and his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother, and his father loveth him.
21你对仆人说：‘把他带下到我这里来，让我亲眼看看他。’And thou saidst unto thy servants, Bring him down unto me, that I may set mine eyes upon him.
22我们对我主说：‘这年轻人不能离开他父亲，若是离开，父亲就会死。’And we said unto my lord, The lad cannot leave his father: for if he should leave his father, his father would die.
23你对仆人说：‘你们最小的弟弟若不和你们一同下来，你们就不要来见我的面。’And thou saidst unto thy servants, Except your youngest brother come down with you, ye shall see my face no more.
24我们上到你仆人，我们父亲那里，就把我主的话告诉了他。And it came to pass when we came up unto thy servant my father, we told him the words of my lord.
25后来，我们的父亲说：‘你们再去给我买些粮来。’And our father said, Go again, and buy us a little food.
26我们说：‘我们不能下去。最小的弟弟若和我们同去，我们就可以下去。因为，最小的弟弟若不和我们同去，我们必不能见那人的面。’And we said, We cannot go down: if our youngest brother be with us, then will we go down: for we may not see the man's face, except our youngest brother be with us.
27你仆人，我父亲对我们说：‘你们知道我的妻子给我生了两个儿子。And thy servant my father said unto us, Ye know that my wife bare me two sons:
28一个离开我走了，我说他必是被野兽撕碎了，直到如今我再没有见过他；And the one went out from me, and I said, Surely he is torn in pieces; and I saw him not since:
29现在你们又要把这个从我面前带走。倘若他遭难，那么你们就害我白发苍苍、悲悲惨惨下阴间去了。’And if ye take this also from me, and mischief befall him, ye shall bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to the grave.
30如今我回到你仆人，我父亲那里，若没有这年轻人和我们同去，我父亲的命是与这年轻人的命相连的，Now therefore when I come to thy servant my father, and the lad be not with us; seeing that his life is bound up in the lad's life;
31当我们的父亲看见没有了这年轻人，他就会死。这样，我们就害你仆人，我们的父亲白发苍苍、悲悲惨惨下阴间去了。It shall come to pass, when he seeth that the lad is not with us, that he will die: and thy servants shall bring down the gray hairs of thy servant our father with sorrow to the grave.
32仆人曾向我父亲为这年轻人担保，说：‘我若不带他回来交给父亲，我就在父亲面前永远担当这罪。’For thy servant became surety for the lad unto my father, saying, If I bring him not unto thee, then I shall bear the blame to my father for ever.
33现在，求你把仆人留下，代替这年轻人作我主的奴隶，让这年轻人和他哥哥们一同上去。Now therefore, I pray thee, let thy servant abide instead of the lad a bondman to my lord; and let the lad go up with his brethren.
34若这年轻人不和我一起，我怎能上到我父亲那里呢？恐怕我要看到灾祸临到我父亲了。”For how shall I go up to my father, and the lad be not with me? lest peradventure I see the evil that shall come on my father.
