在毗珥拜巴力
以色列人住在什亭，百姓开始与摩押女子行淫。
And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.
2这些女子请百姓一同为她们的神明献祭，百姓吃了祭物，跪拜她们的神明。And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.
3以色列与巴力．毗珥联合，耶和华的怒气就向以色列发作。And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel.
4耶和华对摩西说：“拿下百姓中所有的领袖，对着太阳把他们悬挂在我面前，使我向以色列所发的怒气可以平息。”And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel.
5于是摩西对以色列的审判官说：“你们的人若有与巴力．毗珥联合的，你们各人就要把他们杀了。”And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baalpeor.
6摩西和以色列全会众在会幕门口哭泣的时候，看哪，有一个以色列人，在他们眼前带着一个米甸女子，到他弟兄那里。And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
7亚伦祭司的孙子，以利亚撒的儿子非尼哈看见了，就从会众中起来，手里拿着枪，And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;
8跟这以色列人进入帐棚，刺穿了二人，就是以色列人和那女子的肚腹。这样，以色列人遭受的瘟疫就停止了。And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.
9遭瘟疫死的，有二万四千人。And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.
10耶和华吩咐摩西说：And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
11“亚伦祭司的孙子，以利亚撒的儿子非尼哈，使我的愤怒转离以色列人，因为在他们中间，他以我的妒忌为他的妒忌，使我不在妒忌中毁灭以色列人。Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.
12因此，你要说：‘看哪，我将我平安的约赐给他。Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:
13这是他和他的后裔永远当祭司职任的约，因他为了神而妒忌，他为以色列人赎罪。’”And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.
14那与米甸女子一起被杀的以色列人，名叫心利，是撒路的儿子，是西缅一个父家的领袖。Now the name of the Israelite that was slain, even that was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a chief house among the Simeonites.
15那被杀的米甸女子，名叫哥斯比，是苏珥的女儿；苏珥是米甸一个父家的领袖。And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was head over a people, and of a chief house in Midian.
16耶和华吩咐摩西说：And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
17“你要苦害米甸人，击杀他们；Vex the Midianites, and smite them:
18因为他们用诡计苦害你们，在毗珥的事上和他们的姊妹，米甸领袖的女儿哥斯比的事上，欺骗了你们；在瘟疫的日子，这女子因毗珥的事件被杀了。”For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor's sake.
