大卫年纪老迈，日子满足，就立他儿子所罗门作以色列的王。
So when David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over Israel.
利未人的职务
2大卫召集以色列的众领袖、祭司和利未人。And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.
3利未人三十岁以上的都被数点，他们男丁的数目共有三万八千；Now the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thousand.
4其中有二万四千人管理耶和华殿的事务，有六千人作官长和审判官，Of which, twenty and four thousand were to set forward the work of the house of the LORD; and six thousand were officers and judges:
5有四千人作门口的守卫，又有四千人颂赞耶和华，用大卫☛“大卫”：原文是“我”。造的乐器来颂赞。Moreover four thousand were porters; and four thousand praised the LORD with the instruments which I made, said David, to praise therewith.
6大卫把利未人革顺、哥辖、米拉利的子孙分了班次。And David divided them into courses among the sons of Levi, namely, Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
7属革顺的有拉但和示每。Of the Gershonites were, Laadan, and Shimei.
8拉但的长子是耶歇，还有西坦和约珥，共三人。The sons of Laadan; the chief was Jehiel, and Zetham, and Joel, three.
9示每的儿子是示罗密、哈薛、哈兰三人。这是拉但族的族长。The sons of Shimei; Shelomith, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the chief of the fathers of Laadan.
10示每的儿子是雅哈、细拿☛“细拿”:有古卷、七十士译本和其他古译本是“细撒”。、耶乌施、比利亚，这四人是示每的儿子。And the sons of Shimei were, Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.
11雅哈是长子，细撒是次子。但耶乌施和比利亚的子孙不多，所以算为一族。And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons; therefore they were in one reckoning, according to their father's house.
12哥辖的儿子是暗兰、以斯哈、希伯伦、乌薛，共四人。The sons of Kohath; Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.
13暗兰的儿子是亚伦和摩西。亚伦被分别出来，把至圣之物分别为圣，使他和他的子孙在耶和华面前烧香、事奉他，奉他的名祝福，直到永远。The sons of Amram; Aaron and Moses: and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons for ever, to burn incense before the LORD, to minister unto him, and to bless in his name for ever.
14至于神人摩西，他的子孙记名在利未支派下。Now concerning Moses the man of God, his sons were named of the tribe of Levi.
15摩西的儿子是革舜和以利以谢。The sons of Moses were, Gershom, and Eliezer.
16革舜的儿子，长子是细布业；Of the sons of Gershom, Shebuel was the chief.
17以利以谢的儿子，长子是利哈比雅。以利以谢没有别的儿子，但利哈比雅的子孙很多。And the sons of Eliezer were, Rehabiah the chief. And Eliezer had none other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.
18以斯哈的儿子，长子是示罗密。Of the sons of Izhar; Shelomith the chief.
19希伯伦的儿子，长子是耶利雅，次子是亚玛利亚，三子是雅哈悉，四子是耶加面。Of the sons of Hebron; Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.
20乌薛的儿子，长子是米迦，次子是耶西雅。Of the sons of Uzziel; Micah the first, and Jesiah the second.
21米拉利的儿子是抹利和母示。抹利的儿子是以利亚撒和基士。The sons of Merari; Mahli, and Mushi. The sons of Mahli; Eleazar, and Kish.
22以利亚撒死了，没有儿子，只有女儿，他们本族基士的几个儿子娶了她们为妻。And Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters: and their brethren the sons of Kish took them.
23母示的儿子是末力、以得、耶利末，共三人。The sons of Mushi; Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.
24以上是利未子孙作族长的，按着父系、照着男丁的数目，二十岁以上登记的，都办理耶和华殿的事务。These were the sons of Levi after the house of their fathers; even the chief of the fathers, as they were counted by number of names by their polls, that did the work for the service of the house of the LORD, from the age of twenty years and upward.
25大卫说：“耶和华－以色列的神已经使他的百姓得享安宁，他永远住在耶路撒冷。For David said, The LORD God of Israel hath given rest unto his people, that they may dwell in Jerusalem for ever:
26因此，利未人不必再抬帐幕和其中所使用的一切器皿了。”And also unto the Levites; they shall no more carry the tabernacle, nor any vessels of it for the service thereof.
27照着大卫临终的话，利未人二十岁以上的都被数点。For by the last words of David the Levites were numbered from twenty years old and above:
28他们的职务是作亚伦子孙的帮手，在耶和华的殿事奉，照管院子和屋子，洁净一切圣物，办理神殿的事务。Because their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God;
29他们负责预备供饼、素祭的细面和无酵薄饼，或用盘烤，或用油调和的祭物，确认其数量和大小。Both for the shewbread, and for the fine flour for meat offering, and for the unleavened cakes, and for that which is baked in the pan, and for that which is fried, and for all manner of measure and size;
30每日早晚、安息日、初一，以及节期，按数照例，经常献燔祭给耶和华的时候，他们站立称谢赞美耶和华。And to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise at even;
31他们照管会幕和圣所，服事他们的弟兄亚伦的子孙，办理耶和华殿的事务。And to offer all burnt sacrifices unto the LORD in the sabbaths, in the new moons, and on the set feasts, by number, according to the order commanded unto them, continually before the LORD:
